Barnards Farm Gardens

Barnards Farm Gardens

Visit Barnards Farm, a private residence, featuring extensive gardens and a collection of vintage vehicles. The 22-hectare gardens include landscaped walks through young woodland, a Japanese garden, a parterre, herbaceous borders, a living wall, a vegetable garden and a miniature railway.

Date/Time: Sunday, 7th September 2025 at 13:00 - 17:30

Location: Barnards Farm, Brentwood Road, West Horndon, CM13 3FY

We organised a club visit to Barnards Farm Gardens in June 2021 but for those who were unable to make the date or would like to visit again, there is an opportunity to join in with one of the two Public Open Days this year.

Please note that this is not a LIRC-organised or bookable event so you need to book for yourself as noted below.

Barnards Farm Gardens is privately owned and conceived by the owners who live on site; all proceeds go to a charitable trust which in turn funds various well known charities. The garden and car maintenance is mostly carried out by volunteers.

The 50 acres of gardens range from landscaped walks through young woodland to the precise detail of the Japanese garden. The more formal gardens including a parterre, herbaceous borders, a living wall and the vegetable garden are found nearer the house.

A walk through the managed landscape will take in the long avenue, a stream, ponds, and the Euro wood. A striking feature in the SW corner is the belvedere, planted largely with roses providing a blaze of colour in summer. In addition, there is a collection of approximately 70 sculptures arranged in two different walks and a fantastic collection of around 50 veteran cars, trikes and motorbikes on site, most of which are in working order and unusually approachable.

On this open day the Miniature Railway will be running and there are guided walks around the gardens and sculptures or you can just explore on your own.

There is limited catering on site, just light refreshments, but you are welcome to take your own picnic.

There is plenty of car parking space on site. No dogs allowed, apart from guide dogs.

For more information see the web site.

The entry price is £10.00 per person and there are additional charges for refreshments and the Miniature Railway.

You can book your tickets in advance via the National Gardens Scheme website – or you can pay cashless on the day.

You will be impressed!
