Behind the scenes are the rich red curtains of the stage, the stunning ceiling (which now hides very modern technology), the glittering gold of the proscenium arch, and the red and gold lights which replaced the old gas lamps! Enveloping it all is the historic atmosphere of a great world theatre alongside a dynamic working theatre of today.
The tour will include the Auditorium, ballet studio, costume store and lighting store, among other behind-the-scenes insights. Hear stories of the famous opera singers and ballet stars who have taken centre stage and handle a pair of pointe shoes and tutus from recent performances. As the Royal Opera House is a fully working theatre, each tour is a unique experience.
Please note that no photography is permitted when we are viewing the back-of-house areas, but they do encourage us to take photos when viewing the front-of-house spaces (The tour guide will give us a friendly reminder of this at the start of the tour).
