Epping & Ongar Heritage Railway

Travel on steam and diesel trains and a heritage bus though the Essex countryside and part of Epping Forest with lunch on the train.

Our tickets cover lunch, all day travel on the heritage railway and use of the heritage buses to and from Shenfield and Epping stations. The onboard bar is not included.

Timing and Options


Timings
Times Activity
12:00 Arrive at North Weald Station where the steam locomotive will be waiting at the platform. Explore the station (built 1865) and visit the shop for a souvenir of your visit.
12:45 Join the half carriage reserved exclusively for our group. Have a drink from the onboard bar.
13.00 The steam locomotive departs North Weald Station for Ongar. Sit back and enjoy the countryside views, passing through the now closed Blake Hall Station, London Underground’s least used station with only 6 passengers a day.
13:15 The locomotive arrives at Ongar where lunch is served on the train.
13:35 The locomotive departs Ongar for North Weald Station. Sit back and enjoy the return journey.
13.50 The locomotive arrives at North Weald Station. Enjoy your dessert on the train.
14:30 – 14:45 Prepare to leave the carriage on platform 2. Make use of the station facilities before going over the footbridge to platform 1 for the Diesel Management Unit (DMU) service to Epping Forest
14.25 – 14.55 Option
Catch the 339 Routemaster bus from North Weald Station to Epping Underground Station going through parts of Epping Forest
14:50 DMU arrives from Ongar and waits at platform till 15.05
15:05 – 15:25 Take a trip on the DMU to Epping Forest (you cannot get off as there is no platform), arriving back at North Weald Station
15.30 Have a look around the North Weald shop for a souvenier of your visit before your bus home.
15.30 Option
Catch the 339 Routemaster bus from North Weald Station to Epping Underground Station going through parts of Epping Forest and return to North Weald Station which returns at 16.00
16.00 Return home
Last bus to Epping departs at 16:35 (arrives at 16:47)
Last bus to Shenfield departs at 16:02 (arrives 16:42)

Mobility Considerations

Please note that the heritage buses cannot accommodate wheel chairs.

  • Sausage and chips
  • Steamed fish and chips (gluten free)

The only dessert offered is ice cream.

Travel to North Weald Station

  • Take the Central line to Epping then the heritage bus to North Weald Station, departing at 11:25 (arrives 11:37)
  • Catch a train to Shenfield then take the heritage bus to North Weald Station, departing at 10:50 (arrives 11:24)
  • Drive to North Weald Station
